Scientific career

After graduating from high school and having finished his military services, Benjamin Dymel studied mechanical engineering at Bochum University (RUB) with a special focus on micro engineering. During this time, he worked as a research assistant from 2010 to 2012 at the faculty of mechanical engineering and design theory (LMK). He was working within the field of shape memory technologies (SFB 459). In 2012, Benjamin Dymel was also working as a research assistant in the field of research and development with a focus on smart memory technology in Bochum. From 2012 until 2013, Benjamin Dymel worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Security Systems as part of Wuppertal University.

Since August 2014, he has been working at the Institute for Security Systems as a research associate after graduating at RUB. His key responsibilities are supporting the chair of mechatronics with respect to research and teaching, to supervise students’ works and to work on scientific publications. Benjamin Dymel also contributes to the development and measurement of test stands.

Scientific work

  • Diplom thesis on the subject “Development of an optic sensor to record the position and speed of a filter belt” (2013, Chair for laser applications technology at RUB)

  • Project thesis on the subject “Sequential recommendation of specific development know-how using the example of the knowledge base and methodology” (2013, Chair of mechanical engineering and design theory (LMK), RUB)

  • Student research project with the subject “Deriving transformational functions of printability for paper glazing” (2010, Chair of mechanical engineering and design theory (LMK), RUB)


Benjamin Dymel supervises bachelor and master theses as well as project theses during term time. A job placement may also be absolved at the Institute for Security Systems. Possible topics are (among others):  

  • Innovative mechatronic technologies
  • Smart memory technologies
  • Scientific Evaluation
