Main fields of research


Dr.-Ing. Daniel Lichte has been responsible for the establishment of the new research group “risk and vulnerability analysis” concerned with the formulation of security issues. A special focus has been placed on analyzing and evaluating the vulnerability of critical infrastructures as well as regarding uncertainties in the course of the analysis process. Probabilistic measures of general risk analysis and reliability have been deployed.


Scientific career


Dr. Daniel Lichte was born in Unna in 1983. After graduating from high school and having finished his community service, he studied mechanical engineering by specializing on engineering design and automation technology at RUB. In 2009, he graduated successfully from RUB University, Bochum.


Since January 2010, Dr.-Ing. Daniel Lichte was working as a research associate at the Institute for Security Systems as part of Wuppertal University. In 2016, he successfully finished his doctoral studies by earning a PhD in mechanical engineering; the dissertation was titled “An analytic approach to the overarching modelling of vulnerability with respect to infrastructures”.

From November 2017 until end of December 2019, Dr. Lichte has been working as a team leader in order to establish and build a new working group in the field of risk and vulnerability analysis at the Institute for Security Systems.

On January 1st, 2020, Dr. Lichte has taken over a responsible position at the new DLR institute PI, where he will establish a research group focusing on security research topics.

Teaching


During the winter semester 2017/2018, Dr. Lichte gave lectures in reliability in construction, for which he was granted authority to teach by the faculty of mechanical engineering and safety engineering.

Since summer term 2020, Dr. Lichte has been given lectures in "risk analysis in safety and security".
