Kai-Dietrich Wolf studied mechanical engineering and applied mechanics at the Technical University of Darmstadt and at UC Berkeley in California as DAAD scholar. He received his doctorate in applied mechanics from Technical University of Darmstadt. He worked on the modeling and application of piezoelectric ceramics and actuators in vibration engineering and the reliability of such systems as vising scholar, e.g. at the Technion in Israel and at Stanford University. In a spin-off company of Siemens AG, Dr. Wolf led the research activities for the market introduction of small piezoelectric drives suitable for mass production. He led the department "System Reliability and Machine Acoustics" of TU Darmstadt, which is in close cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability, on behalf of the chair holder. In 2009, Dr. Wolf was appointed full professor for Mechatronics and Head of the Institute for Security Systems at University of Wuppertal. His current research focuses on fundamentals of risk metrics (including physical, cyber and safety), physical security analysis of critical infrastructures as well as the application of innovative technologies for modern access control systems. Prof. Wolf chairs the Expert Committee 512 "Safety and Security" and is co-chair of the advisory board “Safety and Reliablity” of the Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure).
